候选总统拜登（Joe Biden）将在1月20日正式宣誓就任美国总统，在权力交接前夕，1月10日，美国国务卿蓬佩奥（Mike Pompeo）宣布取消美台官方交往限制。对此，拜登过渡团队表示，拜登支持和平解决两岸议题，以符合台湾(专题)人民的愿望与最大利益。

　　美国在台协会（AIT）前处长包道格认为，蓬佩奥的动作，是为让川普政府借反中在美国国内政治上得分。

　　拜登过渡团队1月10日表示，美国对台湾必须维持坚定、有原则且跨党派的支持。拜登支持和平解决两岸议题，以符合台湾人民愿望与最大利益。
　　拜登过渡团队的一名官员表示，正如拜登在竞选时所清楚表明的，对于他在担任联邦参议员时投票通过的台湾关系法，他会进行落实，以及遵守美国对一个中国政策的承诺。

　　1月10日，蓬佩奥发表声明称，川普（Donald Trump）政府将不再顾虑北京，取消美国外交、军事与其他官员和台湾官员互动的限制。
