Youth for Climate predicts by then a new dialogue, another one, of an "international community that is still unable to achieve effective changes capable of limiting the increase in global temperature below 1.5 ºC." Different groups highlight in a manifesto that "the latest IPCC report has been clear in establishing that, if immediate Special Data measures are not taken, before the end of this decade the limit of 1.5 °C will have been exceeded and it will be very close to 2 °C. Despite the fact that extreme weather events have been showing enormous human, social and economic consequences for years (frequent heat waves and droughts, torrential rains, crop failures...), governments are far from setting a reduction compatible with scientific indications » .
The science is clear and yet the extraction and use of coal, oil and gas does not stop. In reality, the decarbonization of the economy is still a long way off, as demonstrated by the fact that subsidies for fossil fuel consumption have skyrocketed in 2022 , exceeding $1 trillion for the first time and doubling the figure from the previous year, according to a report from the International Energy Agency (IEA). Climate activists consider there to be a “catastrophic international dereliction” and urge rapid global decarbonization. They consider that Spain should achieve a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 , compared to those registered in 1990. The Government's plans contemplate a lower emissions reduction target, of 32%, for that date. However, the groups do not give up demanding greater ambition from the Executive.
